Metro subway system asked to sell land for D.C. United soccer stadium in Landover

Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson has asked the Metro subway system to sell land the transit agency owns in Landover for use as a new soccer stadium for D.C. United.

LANDOVER, Md. —

Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson has asked the Metro subway system to sell land the transit agency owns in Landover for use as a new soccer stadium for D.C. United.

In a letter sent Tuesday, Johnson said the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission would like to construct offices at the Morgan Boulevard subway station site as well as a D.C. United facility.

Johnson said the team, the county and the commission believe a stadium at the Metro station could drive economic development. D.C. United has said it wants to move from 48-year-old RFK Stadium to a new 24,0000-seat facility in Prince George's County.
