PR woman claims Bernie Williams hit her at club
A woman filed a complaint against former Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams for allegedly hitting her at a nightclub while she took his picture.
A woman filed a complaint against former Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams for allegedly hitting her at a nightclub while she took his picture.
Officer Angel Nazario said the woman claimed Williams snatched the camera, damaged it and hit her in the face. The incident allegedly happened around 2:30 a.m. Thursday at a San Juan nightclub, hours after Williams and his Puerto Rican teammates beat the Netherlands 5-0 in the World Baseball Classic.
Williams denies any wrongdoing, according to his spokesman, Steve Fortunato. Police are investigating.
"It's unfortunate," Williams said Friday in Miami before a Puerto Rican team workout. "It's a misunderstanding. ... There is a part of me that wants to go out there and say, obviously, my side of the facts. But I think I will let the process take its course. I do want to say this: That there are some reports that are represented in the media that are inaccurate. Hopefully, the matter will be clarified sooner or later, and the truth will come out."
Puerto Rico plays the United States in the WBC on Saturday night in Miami. Puerto Rican manager Jose Oquendo said he talked with Williams about the matter.
"We're going to support Bernie fully," Oquendo said. "It won't be any distraction for us."
