As the postseason awards pile up and the Washington Huskies dance their way toward the NCAA tournament, coach Lorenzo Romar is seeing some financial rewards.

Romar received a $2,500 bonus Monday when he was named Pac-10 coach of the year and earned another $5,000 for UW's first outright Pac-10 regular-season title.

In 2007, Romar and Washington officials agreed to a 10-year extension that could keep the coach at UW until 2016. Romar's deal guarantees him $1.1 million per season, which includes a $412,020 base salary. He is also guaranteed $705,000 from media compensation, the school's Nike contract, speaking engagements and a vehicle stipend.

Other incentives included in the contract:

• $5,000 for winning the Pac-10 tournament.

• $12,500 for an NCAA tournament appearance.

• $25,000 for a Sweet 16 appearance.

• $37,500 for a Final Four appearance.

• $50,000 for winning the national title.

Romar, one of 10 finalists for the national coach of the year award, could also receive $5,000 if he claims that prize, increasing the potential of his postseason on-court bonuses to $142,500. The coach also is eligible for $32,500 in incentives for academic and administrative success.

Romar's contract puts him near the top of other Pac-10 basketball coaching salaries, but it pales in comparison to the deal given to Steve Sarkisian. Washington's new football coach will earn $1.75 million in 2009, $1.85 million in 2010, $2 million in 2011, $2.1 million in 2012 and $2.3 million in 2013, not including incentives that could reach as high as $1.5 million per year.

The Huskies (24-7), ranked 10th in the coaches poll and 13th in The Associated Press poll, play the winner of Wednesday's Oregon State-Stanford game in the Pac-10 quarterfinals on Thursday.
