Sounders FC will name Sigi Schmid coach on Tuesday
Seattle Sounders FC has scheduled a news conference for 11 a.m. Tuesday to introduce its new coach, Sigi Schmid, who led Columbus to the MLS title last season.

Sigi Schmid will be named coach of Seattle Sounders FC at an 11 a.m. news conference Tuesday at Qwest Field.
Schmid left the Columbus Crew earlier this month after leading the club to the Major League Soccer championship. Schmid's path to become Seattle's coach was cleared after the league found no evidence of tampering by Seattle, as charged by Columbus, and after Sounders FC paid the Crew to release Schmid from a noncompete clause in his previous contract. Schmid's contract with the Crew had expired after the season.
Also, Seattle and Qwest Field are being considered as a site for the U.S. men's national team vs. Mexico World Cup qualifying match to be held somewhere in the United States in February, according to a source familiar with the process. The announcement from the U.S. Soccer Federation regarding where that game will be played is likely to be made sometime this week.
