Mills scores 26 as Saint Mary's beats Kent State

Patrick Mills scored 26 points, including 19 in the second half as Saint Mary's of California took control and beat Kent State 75-69 Thursday night.

KENT, Ohio —

Patrick Mills scored 26 points, including 19 in the second half as Saint Mary's of California took control and beat Kent State 75-69 Thursday night.

Omar Samhan had 19 and Carlin Hughes added 14 for Saint Mary's (6-1).

Brandon Parks and Chris Singletary scored 16 points apiece for Kent State (3-4), and Al Fisher had 14.

Saint Mary's blew a 12-point lead and ended the first half tied 30-30. The lead see-sawed until a 3-pointer by Mills put Saint Mary's ahead for good at 52-49 with 9:19 to play.

A 3-pointer by Hughes ended a 12-2 run over the next four minutes that put Saint Mary's up by double figures. Mills was 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final 1:10 to preserve the win.
