Gary Payton trying to get NBA team in Seattle
Former Sonics guard wants professional basketball team in Seattle by 2011
Seattle Times staff reporter
Former Sonics guard Gary Payton was at Qwest Field to raise the 12th Man flag before Sunday's kickoff, then later told reporters he is trying to get a group together to bring an NBA franchise back to Seattle by 2011.
Payton said he is enlisting the help of another former Sonic, James Donaldson, and other current NBA players to join the group. He has yet to speak to NBA commissioner David Stern, but also plans to have his agent, Aaron Goodwin, speak with people in the business world to further the cause.
"I'm always looking forward to another team coming here," Payton said.
