Mill Creek eliminated from Little League World Series
Mill Creek was eliminated, losing to Hawaii 9-4 in a U.S. semifinal game.
Mill Creek's run at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., came to an end tonight.
Mill Creek was beaten 9-4 by a team from Waipahu, Hawaii in a U.S. semifinal game.
Hawaii moves into the U.S. championship game at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mill Creek was eliminated from the tournament.
Mill Creek took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a base hit by Alex Jondal. Hawaii came back with four runs in the bottom of the first, on two two-run home runs.
Mill Creek cut the lead to 4-3 in the second on a home run by KJ Neaville. Hawaii's Pikai Winchester hit a home run in the bottom of the third to make it 5-3, then a two-run double gave Hawaii a 7-3 edge.
Mill Creek cut the lead to 7-4 with a run in the fourth, but left two runners on base.
A two-run homer by Winchester gave Hawaii a 9-4 edge.
Mill Creek stranded 11 runners in the game, and was just 2 for 15 with runners in scoring position.
Mill Creek lost its first game of the tournament, 5-1 to Lake Charles, La., before rallying for wins in pool play over Hagerstown, Md. (15-5) and Jeffersonville, Ind. (3-2) to advance to the U.S. semifinals.
Hawaii was 3-0 in pool play, outscoring its opponents 19-7.
In the other game Wednesday, the Tokyo, Japan team beat a team from Willemstad, Curacao, 11-4 in an international semifinal matchup.
Teams from Mexico and Guam will meet in the other international semifinal today, at 1 p.m. In the U.S. semifinal, at 5 p.m., Lake Charles, La., will play Tampa, Fla.
