Seahawks' top pick Lawrence Jackson signs, practices

The Seattle Seahawks signed rookie defensive end Lawrence Jackson on Friday, making him the NFL team's first first-round draft pick since 2003 to sign in time for the first practice at training camp.

KIRKLAND — First-round draft pick Lawrence Jackson signed with the Seahawks on Friday.

It's believed to be a five-year contract worth a total of $11.25 million with $6.1 million of that in what is called guaranteed money that Jackson is assured of being paid.

Jackson reported in time for the team's first workout Friday morning, which began at 9:15 a.m.

The 6-foot-4, 271-pound defensive end from USC and was the 28th overall pick.

"That was very important to Lawrence and very important to us," said Sean Howard, Jackson's agent.

The Seahawks announced the signing Friday morning. He is the Seahawks' first first-round pick since Marcus Trufant in 2003 to sign in time to report for the first practice of training camp.
