UW Football | Two wideouts ineligible
Seattle Times staff reporter

Anthony Boyles was a standout in California.
The Washington Huskies will be without two of their top incoming recruits — receivers Anthony Boyles and Devin Aguilar — when practice begins Aug. 5.
Both said Thursday that they have yet to earn a qualifying test score and won't be able to get one in time for the beginning of practice. However, both said they will retake the ACT on Sept. 15, then enroll for classes in September if their scores are good enough. They could conceivably play from that point on, though it's more likely they would redshirt.
"I'm planning on trying to come up and play, but being realistic I might just redshirt so I can get ready for next year," Boyles said.
Boyles, a 6-foot-2, 195-pounder from Compton, Calif., was one of the most highly rated Washington recruits, ranked the No. 12 player in California last year by Rivals.com.
He was expected to see significant time this season, especially after he was named the MVP of the West team at the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in January in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., catching two passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.
He said he was close on the ACT and that even if he doesn't get the needed score, he still intends to become a Husky.
"It's not over with yet," he said of getting qualifying score in September. "It's nothing I'm really sweating over."
Aguilar, of Denver, said he needs to bring up the writing portion of the ACT by a point. If he does, he will enroll this fall.
"This was a wake-up call," he said. "But I got it that I've got to get back on the books again and handle my business."
Aguilar was named the Colorado offensive player of the year by the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post as a senior after catching 53 passes for 1,339 yards and 18 touchdowns.
The Huskies have already lost lineman Emeka Iweka of Rainier Beach to academic ineligibility. He reportedly intends to enroll at a junior college.
The rest of Washington's class of 27 recruits are expected to be eligible.
The Huskies signed three highly ranked receivers in February to bolster a position with only one scholarship player at the end of spring. That will certainly be a heavy recruiting emphasis again this year.
