Mariners draft Canadian high schooler

The Mariners selected Canadian high schooler Phillipe Aumont, a 6-foot-7 right-handed pitcher from Gatineau, Quebec, with their first pick in today's baseball draft.

The Mariners selected Canadian high schooler Phillipe Aumont, a 6-foot-7 right-handed pitcher from Gatineau, Quebec, with their first pick in today's baseball draft.

Aumont, the 11th player chosen overall, is considered Canada's best prospect since Adam Loewen, a starting pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. Aumont's fastball has been clocked at 96 mph.
