The University of Washington men's varsity eight-oared crew won the national championship this morning on the Copper River in New Jersey and Husky crews were victorious in two other events.

The top-ranked and undefeated UW varsity eight won the championships race by covering the 2,000-meter course in 5 minutes, 33.16 seconds. Stanford and Harvard finished tied for second in 5:34.12 followed by Brown, California and Princeton.

This is the Huskies' first varsity eight championship at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) regatta since 1997 and 12th national title overall.

The Huskies' second varsity, commonly called junior-varsity, won in 5:43.02, finishing ahead of Wisconsin (5:44.73) and Cornell (5:47.71) followed by Harvard, California and Brown.

The UW's open four shell won its race and the Husky freshman eight finished third behind California and Brown.
