Lauren Jackson scored 31 points, and Betty Lennox had 22 to help the Seattle Storm set a franchise record for points in a game in their 100-87 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday night.

Janell Burse added 13 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, just one short of Jackson’s team record held by Jackson, and Sue Bird also had 13 points for the Storm (2-0). Cappie Pondexter led the Mercury (1-1) with 31 points, and Diana Taurasi had 14.

Jackson, injury-free after battling foot and shin problems, made three 3-pointers and was 12-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Jackson made two free throws with 4:24 left to break the team record of 97 points, set in a win over Phoenix last season. She made two more free throws a minute later to give her 31 points, only four shy of her team record set last May against Phoenix.

Jackson scored 17 points in the first half to help the Storm take a 55-33 lead. Seattle pushed the margin to 26 points early in the third quarter.

In its opener last week, Seattle overcame a 22-point deficit in the second half to beat Houston.
