Washington State has announced its football captains for the fall and they include quarterback Alex Brink and safety Husain Abdullah, whose brother, Hamza, was a Cougars captain in 2004.

The other captains are senior wide receiver Michael Bumpus and junior linebacker Greg Trent.

"The players vote and I couldn't agree with them more," said coach Bill Doba. "They took it seriously and did an excellent job of picking out four kids that will be outstanding leaders."

Brink was a co-captain as a junior. This is the first time as captains for fellow seniors Abdullah and Bumpus, and for Trent. Brink was second-team All-Pac-10 and threw for 2,899 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.

Abdullah has started the past 21 games. He had 66 tackles last season and made two interceptions. He is from Pomona, Calif. His brother, Hamza, plays for the Denver Broncos.

Bumpus led the Cougars with 60 catches for 558 yards and scored one TD last season.

Trent emerged as a leader in spring football. He started all 12 games last season.

Notes

• WSU has signed a linebacker and defensive back from Blinn Community College in Texas, according to Cougfan.com. Linebacker Kenn Dunn, 5-11, 245, and defensive back Alfonso Jackson, 5-10, 188, are expected to be available for the upcoming Pac-10 season.

• Senior defensive tackle Aaron Johnson underwent surgery for a bulging disk in late April and is expected to be ready for fall camp.
