The Seahawks and longtime guard Chris Gray agreed to terms of a multi-year contract Thursday, according to a source close to the situation.
Gray, an unrestricted free agent after last season, had hoped to stay with the team for which he has played nine of his 14 NFL seasons. The Seahawks, mutually, had also hoped to re-sign the 36-year-old.
Both sides got their wish. Terms of the deal were unavailable Thursday night, but Gray is expected to sign the contract and make it official in the next day or two.
Gray is one of the most durable Seahawks ever, having put together a streak of 121 consecutive regular-season starts until he was declared inactive with a thigh injury at Tampa Bay in Week 17 of 2006. That streak is a team record.
Gray was the Seahawks' right guard in 2006, the same position he has held consistently since the 2003 season began. He has also played left guard and center for Seattle.
He joined the Seahawks in 1998 after four seasons with the Miami Dolphins and one with the Chicago Bears.
The Seahawks have been unable to sign an offensive lineman in free agency this offseason. So re-signing Gray was key to keeping the cohesiveness along the offensive line.
