Unsigned Hawks TE Stevens arrested in Arizona

Jerramy Stevens was arrested early this morning in Arizona and faces charges of driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana, according to the Arizona Republic.

Jerramy Stevens was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and marijuana possession in Scottsdale, Ariz., early this morning.

Stevens was arrested by Scottsdale Police. According to the officer's report he was alone and driving a leased truck. The officer reported that he immediately smelled the odor of an intoxicating beverage upon contact with Stevens after pulling him over.

Stevens agreed to perform field-sobriety tests, but declined after an initial "walk-and-turn" test. He also declined a portable breath test, and the officer indicated that was when Stevens was placed under arrest. The officer stated in the report that there were paper napkins with a loose clump of "green leafy substance" in Stevens' back pants pocket. A second officer indicated he smelled the odor of marijuana in the driver's-side seat. The second officer wrote in his report the smell was consistent with someone sitting in the seat on top of unpackaged marijuana.

Stevens was booked into jail and released on bond. A court date in Scottsdale has been set for April 2.

Stevens, 27, attended River Ridge High School, went to the University of Washington and was drafted by the Seahawks in the first round in 2002. He played for the team the past five seasons, but was no longer on the roster, having become an unrestricted free agent on March 2.

The Seahawks announced today they signed Marcus Pollard, who plays tight end, the same position as Stevens.

Stevens previously visited Tampa Bay as a free agent, but he was not in Arizona on a free-agent visit.

Stevens was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 2003, but pleaded guilty to reckless driving. He was sentenced to two days in jail for that offense and an additional five days in prison for violating probation on a previous charge.
