Derek Rackley, who served as the Seahawks' long snapper for all of 2006 except Week One, has re-signed a one-year contract with the Seahawks, his agent confirmed today.
Rackley joined the Seahawks after J.P. Darche injured his right hip during the regular-season opener in Detroit and had to be placed on injured reserve.
Rackley, the Atlanta Falcons' long snapper since 2000, assumed that duty for Seattle for 15 regular-season games and both playoff games. He was to become a free agent next month but avoided that by signing.
Robb Nelson, Rackley's agent, said he and the team began talking about Rackley's return after the season, and that both sides agreed to a deal two weeks ago. Keeping Rackley means the Seahawks aren't likely to re-sign Darche, who had been with the Seahawks since 2000 and never missed a game until 2006.
