Willingham staying put at UW

Seattle Times staff reporter

Coach Tyrone Willingham met the media Monday to discuss his involvement in a new fantasy football camp for adults that will be held at Washington on July 27-29, obvious evidence he's not planning on going anywhere any time soon despite what Jim Mora Jr. may wish.

Mora, currently the coach of the Atlanta Falcons, said last week on KJR-AM that "you'll find me at the head of the line with my résumé in my hand ready to take that job," should the Huskies position come open. His comments have raised a stir in Atlanta where some question where his loyalties lie and the propriety of appearing to lust after another job.

Willingham said he didn't hear of the comments until several days later. Asked what he thought, he said, "As I heard one of the commentators say, that was a great case of opening mouth and inserting foot."

Willingham said he wasn't too bothered by it all, adding that "I was pretty comfortable with anything that came out," and he again reiterated that he intends to stay at Washington a long time, citing all the pluses of the job.

Some of Willingham's staff, however, is changing as receivers coach Eric Yarber is leaving to take a similar position under Dennis Erickson at Arizona State. Willingham wouldn't confirm the specifics of Yarber's departure but did say that "there will be [changes]."

He's in no hurry to replace Yarber.

"I am never in a rush to make that decision," he said. "The key is to get the right person. I think we had the right persons and I think that's been identified by how our players have responded to our coaches. So I will be in no rush to make an adjustment to that."

NOTE

• Willingham and former UW coach Don James will each participate in the fantasy camp, which is operated by Flashbacks Camp. More information can be found at flashbackcamps.com/huskies.
