NW Briefs | Saint Martin's women fall, 94-54

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — The North Dakota women's basketball team found its stride early against Saint Martin's early on Monday night, starting the game on a 13-0 run en route to a 94-54 victory.

Saint Martin's pulled to nine points on three separate occasions, but UND's depth and athleticism proved too much for the Saints.

Jamey Gelhar and Jessi Reome each had 12 points for Saint Martin's (2-3). The Sioux (8-1) were led by Val Sannes, who scored a career-high 17 points off the bench.

Men's basketball

Western Washington senior center Lukas Henne has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference player of the week for Nov. 19-25.

Henne, a graduate of Central Kitsap High School, scored 51 points to earn MVP honors in the WWU Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic.

• Saint Martin's has signed three players to letters of intent: guard Sam Glasgow (Portland), forward Michael Ognoskie Jr. (Centralia) and guard Nick Smith (Tumwater).

Cross country

Junior National steeplechase champion Marie Lawrence (Reno, Nev.), Max O'Donoghue McDonald (Seattle Prep) and Lauren Saylor (Clovis, Calif.) signed letters of intent with Washington during the recently completed early-signing period.

Note

• After receiving more than 49 inches of fresh snowfall in the last week, Stevens Pass will open the Jupiter Chair on Wednesday. The resort is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but skiers should check the resort's Web site, www.stevenspass.com, for up-to-date area information.
