The good: Sure, the ending will linger as a frustrating missed opportunity, but the bigger picture is that the Huskies were able to play USC to a statistical dead heat for 60 minutes, something they haven't done since 2001.
The bad: The Huskies continue to be a little sloppy in areas that ought to be cleaned up by now — specifically, bad snaps from both deep snapper Danny Morovick and center Juan Garcia in the shotgun, dropped passes and interceptions, mishandled pitches and miscommunication of the type that coaches said led to the blocked punt. All proved critical Saturday.
Next up: Saturday, vs. Oregon State, 3:30 p.m.
Offense: A week after going deep more than usual against Arizona, coordinator Tim Lappano reined in the passing attack against a USC defense content to play zone and the Huskies had success with a lot of short and intermediate routes. UW also rushed for 167 yards against USC, the most it has allowed all season. Grade: B-plus.
Defense: It's true USC's offense is missing a lot of key parts — its top three receivers were all out with injuries when the game ended. Still, it's hard to argue with an effort in which USC's offense scores just one TD. Grade: B-plus.
Special teams: Much like the Oklahoma game, this is another one the Huskies might have won with a better effort in this department. The successful onside kick to start the second half was well executed, but something has to be done about the punting. Sean Douglas is great when he gets it off, but another one was blocked. Grade: B-minus.
