NW Briefs | Injuries end Jones' Huskies basketball career

Angie Jones, a senior guard on the Washington women's basketball team, has ended her college career because of injuries that have resulted in arthritis in her right knee, coach June Daugherty said Thursday.

Jones has had two ACL surgeries and two meniscus surgeries on her right knee since her junior year in high school at Holy Names Academy.

Jones, who played in 51 games for Washington, starting four and averaging 1.9 points, will be a student assistant coach this season.

Women's soccer

Washington State (5-4-2) gave host Portland a scare, but the fourth-ranked Pilots escaped with a 2-1 win.

Volleyball

Jenna Von Moos had a match-high 33 assists as 15th-ranked Seattle Pacific (17-2, 9-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) swept Northwest Nazarene, 30-23, 30-20, 30-20 at Brougham Pavilion.

• Emily Castro had 22 kills as Western Washington (11-5, 7-1 GNAC) battled back for a 22-30, 31-33, 31-29, 30-22, 15-10 victory over Central Washington (14-4, 5-3) in Ellensburg, the Wildcats' third straight loss.

• Eastern Washington (9-7, 2-5 Big Sky) defeated Montana State 30-26, 30-24, 24-30, 30-26 in Bozeman, Mont.

Men's soccer

Colin Rigby, Jeff Hallenbeck, James Coggan and Drew Macha each scored as sixth-ranked Seattle Pacific (10-2) routed host UC-Colorado Springs 4-0.

• Scott Marshall registered his third career hat trick as Corban shut out Evergreen State (3-6-1, 2-3 Cascade Collegiate Conference) 4-0 in Salem, Ore.

Tennis

Washington State's Ekaterina Burduli ended her run at the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., falling 6-2, 6-3 to Alexandra Hirsch of Wake Forest in a consolation match.

Other basketball

Former Washington State center Keisha Moore has signed to play with Ljubljana ILIRIJA in the Slovenian women's 1A league.

• The Everett Explosion of the International Basketball League has signed a lease agreement to play at the Everett Events Center.

• Edmonds' Marjorie Yalowicki has been named to the United States Women's Curling Association team that will tour Manitoba in November.

Danita Erickson, a former Puget Sound cross country and track star, won the Portland Marathon on Sunday in 2 hours, 53 minutes, 14 seconds.
