Alexander out with fracture in foot

Seattle Times staff reporter

Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander has a fracture in his left foot. He is on crutches today, and is expected to be out at least two weeks. He will not play Sunday in Chicago, and Maurice Morris will replace Alexander.

The timeline is intentionally vague. Coach Mike Holmgren said this afternoon that he did not want to be specific. The Seahawks have a bye after Sunday's game in Chicago.

"The actual time of his rehab, we can't even determine at this point," Holmgren said. "I don't think it will be real lengthy, but it is what it is. Now, he just has to stay off of it and let it heal up."

Alexander suffered an injury in his left foot in the season-opening game in Detroit. It was described as a bone bruise. It worsened after the second game, and Alexander did not practice for two days last week. Now, there is a fracture.

"The bone bruise can lead to that if you step on it the wrong way or something happens," Holmgren said.

It is a non-displaced fracture, and Holmgren described it as a small crack.
