KIRKLAND – Practice has begun today at Seahawks headquarters, and it appears the Seahawks have released 15 players.
The roster cuts have yet to be officially announced, but roll call at practice revealed the 15 missing players. The Seahawks had to cut at least 14 players by Tuesday.
Gone are the following: P Gabe Lindstrom; QB Gibran Hamdan; WRs Taco Wallace, Tony Brown and Keenan Howry; CBs Lance Frazier and Reggie Austin; FS Brandon Haw; FB Ran Carthon; FS Shaunard Harts; TE Keith Willis; LB Evan Benjamin (a former UW player); C Taylor Schmidt; G Jeff Bolton and DT Alex Guerrero.
The Seahawks waived one extra player than required because they used that roster spot to sign free agent tight end Leonard Stephens, who most recently was in the Tampa Bay Bucanneers' training camp. The team's top two tight ends, Jerramy Stevens and Itula Mili, are out for some time with injuries.
The signing of Stephens, who is 6 feet 3 and 258 pounds and played five games for Washington in 2002, has yet to be made official.
Hamdan's release was a bit of a surprise given his training-camp effort. It means that second-year pro David Greene has a firm grip on the No. 3 quarterback job for now, despite struggling in the exhibition season and camp.
