UW Basketball: Women to face nine tourney teams

The Washington women's basketball team will face nine opponents that made it to the NCAA tournament last year, including seven that reached at least the second round, as the team announced its 2006-07 schedule Monday.

A tentative schedule was released for the UW men, highlighted by a Dec. 9 game in Spokane against rival Gonzaga and a home game Dec. 16 against Final Four participant Louisiana State.

Highlighting the UW women's schedule are road games at Purdue, which advanced to the Sweet 16 last year, and Ohio State, ranked No. 2 in the final 2006 AP poll.

After a pair of exhibitions, the Huskies women start the season with three road games, beginning Nov. 14 at Marquette.

The UW men's first real game is Nov. 12 against Pepperdine in the Basketball Travelers Classic at Edmundson Pavilion.
