Dominic Yarrington yearned to be a head football coach again, in the right setting.
He found it at Lindbergh High School in Renton.
Yarrington, who previously was a head coach at Tyee of SeaTac and White River of Buckley, has been offensive coordinator at Beamer of Federal Way the past two seasons. He takes over at Lindbergh for Ny'Ika Long, who resigned after four seasons and takes over the Tyee program this fall.
"I wanted to be a head coach again, but I wanted it to be a good situation," Yarrington said. "Ny'Ika did a great job there [at Lindbergh] and they get a lot of support. I felt like it was a really good fit."
Yarrington, who also will have a teaching position at Lindbergh, coached at Tyee in 1988, then was at White River from 1999 to 2002. He took one season off before becoming an assistant at Beamer.
Lindbergh administrators are excited to have him.
"We liked how he interviewed and what he plans on doing," athletic director Jeff Stuart said. "He's very well organized."
KingCo playoff change
The KingCo 4A Conference and Greater St. Helens League in southwest Washington have agreed to change the way they distribute state-playoff spots the next two years.
In volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball and boys and girls soccer, the No. 3 team from KingCo will play the No. 2 team from the GSL in a mini-playoff, with the winner earning a state-playoff berth.
The top two teams in KingCo and top team in GSL will automatically advance.
Originally, KingCo was given three state-playoff spots in those sports next year, and two spots the following year. The GSL was originally given one spot next year, and two spots the following year.
"This way, it allows us to steal one from them," said Inglemoor athletic director Frank Naish. "And they have a chance to steal one from us."
Next year, all the mini-playoff games will be played at KingCo sites, and the year after that, at GSL sites.
Football, which is already tied into a district playoff format, and individual sports such as wrestling and golf are not included in the deal.
