Sounders rookie helps team to draw

From team reports

BURNABY, B.C. — The Seattle Sounders played the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 2-2 draw Friday night at Swangard Stadium.

Late-game heroics once again by Sounders rookie forward Cam Weaver tied the match in the 73rd minute. Weaver finished the match with two goals, both goals tying the score.

Weaver's goals are the first goals allowed by Vancouver at home this season.

The Whitecaps (3-0-2) scored in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Tacoma native Joey Gjertsen, the leading scorer in the USL First Division, scored his fourth goal of the season, sneaking by Sounders goalkeeper David Mahoney on a low shot.

The Sounders (1-2-2) answered back just four minutes later as Andrew Gregor's chip into the box set up Weaver for a header, just 10 yards off the goal line.

The Sounders were able to tie the match at 2-2 in the 73rd minute as a header by defender Zach Scott sent the ball bouncing into the box. Weaver chased down the ball, collected it and skipped a 15-yard shot into the goal.
