Sue Bird profile

No. 10, Point guard, Fifth year

Height: 5-9.

Weight: 150.

Age: 25, born Oct. 16, 1980, in Syosset, N.Y.

College: Connecticut, 2002.

Acquired: No. 1 overall in 2002 draft.

Hometown: Syosset, N.Y., and Seattle.

Pro experience: Fifth season, averaged 12.1 points and 5.9 assists in 2005.

Game time: Bird needs to be more aggressive offensively, averaging at least 14 shots. With the talent the Storm has, it's difficult for this traditional point guard to look to shoot instead of making the open pass, but her team needs her to score. Bird will also have to concentrate on playing stronger defense and being a better leader.

Hairdos: Don't look for Bird to drastically change her hair anytime soon. "I always tell my hairdresser, 'You can do whatever you want as long as it fits in a ponytail.' This is my thing," she said. Bird actually has red highlights, but you can't tell because she's stuck in a gym all summer, not spending enough time in the sun to bring the color out.

Nickname: Birdy.
