Hawks re-sign Brown

Seattle Times staff reporter

Josh Brown, one of the heroes of the 2005 Seahawks with his clutch field goals, is returning to the team.

Brown, who turns 27 at the end of this month, signed his restricted-free-agent tender Monday. He's back for 2006 at a salary of $721,600.

A seventh-round draft pick out of Nebraska in 2003, Brown made 18 of 25 field-goal attempts in 2005 and tied Norm Johnson's team record after connecting on five field goals of 50 yards or more. He kicked two game-winning field goals, against Dallas and the New York Giants, and was an NFC Pro Bowl alternate.

Note

• The Seahawks had S Keion Carpenter, a former Atlanta Falcon, in town for a free-agent visit last week. Carpenter, 28, had 43 solo tackles and two interceptions in 2005. He is familiar with Seahawks president Tim Ruskell, who worked in Atlanta's front office before coming to Seattle in 2005.
