The Washington Huskies are hoping to receive as many as four letters of intent from junior-college football players today as the midyear signing period begins.

The midyear period is designed for JC players who will enroll in the winter or spring quarters and be on campus in time for spring football.

UW has rarely signed more than one or two players in the midyear period, but is upping its junior-college recruiting this season in an attempt to get some immediate help while trying to rebound from a 3-19 combined record the last two seasons.

There remained a bit of mystery about one of the players on UW's wish list for today, however. Cornerback Coye Francies of American River College in Sacramento had been listed as a solid commitment for UW. Recently, however, several reports have had him leaning toward signing with Oregon State. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Francies was not available for comment Tuesday.

The three other players expected to sign today are considered solid commits. They are linebacker Anthony Atkins of Compton (Calif.) CC, cornerback Jordan Murchison of Community College of San Francisco, and lineman/long snapper Danny Morovick of Saddleback CC in California.

UW has at least nine other commitments from players who are expected to sign in the regular signing period, which begins Feb. 1.
