The left-hander, who turned 43 last month, went 13-7 with a 4.28 ERA last season, his 10th in Seattle. He threw 200 innings and earned $8 million. Moyer is 205-152 in his 18-year career, which began in 1986 with the Chicago Cubs. He can earn an additional $1 million in performance bonuses next season — $200,000 each for 160, 170, 180, 190 and 200 innings. One of the offseason priorities of Seattle general manager Bill Bavasi was to acquire veteran starting pitching. Moyer remains with a staff that includes 32-year-old Ryan Franklin, 27-year-old Gil Meche, 27-year-old Joel Pineiro and 19-year-old phenom Felix Hernandez. Moyer is entrenched in the Seattle community. Five years ago, he and his wife, Karen, started The Moyer Foundation to fund Western Washington organizations that help children in severe distress. He and Bavasi did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment. Copyright © 2005 The Seattle Times Company Most read articles
