Brown hits 50-yard field goal to lift Hawks over Dallas, 13-10

Jordan Babineaux intercepted Drew Bledsoe's sideline pass with 5 seconds left and Josh Brown kicked a 50-yard field goal as time expired to give the Seattle Seahawks a 13-10 victory over the Dallas Cowboys today.

"We needed all 60 minutes. What a great, great win," Seattle coach Mike Holmgren said. "That's stating the obvious."

Their league-leading offense rendered essentially inert by Dallas' swarming, attacking defense and ball-control offense for the first 58 minutes, the Seahawks tied it with 40 seconds left on Matt Hasselbeck's 1-yard TD pass to tight end Ryan Hannam.

Seattle then stunned the Cowboys with Brown's long kick after Babineaux intercepted the pass intended for Terry Glenn and returned it 25 yards.

Last year in a Monday night game in Seattle, Dallas overcame a 10-point deficit with less than 2 minutes to play to beat the Seahawks 43-39.

Brown, who made a 55-yarder in the second quarter, converted the winning kick four weeks after he hit the left upright from 49 yards on the final play of regulation in a 20-17 overtime loss in Washington.

"I told him sometime in the season we were going to be in the exact situation, and he was going to make it," Holmgren said. "And he did."

Seattle has won three straight after the loss in Washington to improve to 5-2 for the sixth time in its 30-season history. Five of those six times, Seattle reached the playoffs. The other time, in 1986, it finished 10-6.

The frantic finish dropped Dallas (5-3) out of the NFC East lead, a half-game behind Washington and Philadelphia. It also denied the Cowboys their first three-game winning streak since October 2003, Bill Parcells' first season in Dallas.

Hasselbeck, 23-of-42 for 224 yards with the one touchdown and two interceptions, completed all four of his passes on Seattle's tying 81-yard drive. A 22-yard pass- interference penalty on Dallas' Aaron Glenn with 1:40 remaining moved the Seahawks to the Cowboys 25 and in position for the score.

Dallas' Tyson Thompson returned the kickoff 39 yards to the Cowboys 41. But two plays later, Bledsoe's attempt to Terry Glenn on the sideline ended with the Babineaux's game-changing play.

Seattle running back Shaun Alexander, stymied for most of the day, finished with 61 yards rushing on 21 carries. With an 11-yard run on the Seahawks' tying drive, he passed Chris Warren to become Seattle's career rushing leader with 6,713 yards.

Bledsoe was 13-of-24 for 136 yards. He threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Keyshawn Johnson in the first quarter.

The Cowboys also blew a late lead in a Monday night game in Week 2 when the Redskins scored two touchdowns in the final 3:46 to beat Dallas 14-13.
