MONTREAL — The Montreal Impact is looking at a very long winter.
Roger Levesque's goal in the 90th minute gave the Seattle Sounders a 2-1 victory over the Impact yesterday afternoon, in front of 10,124 fans at Claude Robillard Stadium.
The Impact lost the two-game, aggregate goal United Soccer Leagues semifinal series 4-3 as Seattle halted Montreal's attempt for back-to-back league titles.
The Sounders host the Richmond Kickers in the championship final Saturday at a time and site to be determined.
"It's going to be long," Impact midfielder Patrick Leduc said of the upcoming offseason. "A lot longer than last year."
The Sounders lost to the Impact 2-0 in the A-League final last season in Montreal.
"The determination that they showed against a lot of supposed odds was very, very impressive," said Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer. "We feel very, very proud and ready to go."
Levesque took a pass from defender Andrew Gregor at the top of the penalty area before launching a shot from about 20 yards out that deflected off an Impact defender and over the head of Montreal's all-league goalkeeper Greg Sutton in the game's 90th minute. It was Levesque's fourth goal in four playoff games.
Montreal had a chance to tie in extra time, but Eduardo Sebrango's short shot was wide.
