Soccer roundup: American McBride scores for Fulham

LONDON — U.S. forward Brian McBride scored his third goal of the season yesterday, helping Fulham to a 1-1 tie at Newcastle in the English Premier League.

Fulham took advantage of a poor pass in the 13th minute to take the lead. Charles N'Zogbia tied the score in the 78th, getting Newcastle's first goal in five matches this season.

England striker Michael Owen played for Newcastle for the first time since his $29.4 million move from Real Madrid of Spain.

Defending champion Chelsea stayed perfect behind goals from Geremi and Didier Drogba in a 2-0 win over last-place Sunderland. Chelsea is three points ahead of Charlton, which won 1-0 at Birmingham on a goal by Darren Bent for its fourth straight victory.

Chelsea has five wins and hasn't allowed a goal.

Manchester United and Manchester City tied 1-1.

Ruud van Nistelrooy gave United the lead in the 45th minute, but Joey Barton tied the score in the 76th. Manchester City is unbeaten in 13 games, going back to last season, and is third in the league — one spot above United.

"We dominated, but dropped two points today," United manager Alex Ferguson said.
