SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners placed infielder Willie Bloomquist on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring Tuesday and recalled infielder Jose Lopez from Triple-A Tacoma.
Bloomquist, 27, was injured in the fourth inning of Monday night's 7-4 loss to the New York Yankees when he tried to beat out a grounder.
In 73 games, he hit .257 with 15 doubles, two triples, 14 stolen bases and 22 RBIs.
The versatile Bloomquist has started 29 games at second base, 21 at shortstop and one at third base this season. In addition, he has started 13 games in center field.
This is the second time Bloomquist has been on the disabled list in four seasons with the Mariners. He was on the 15-day DL from May 2-21, 2004, with a strained lower back.
The 21-year-old Lopez hit .315 with 29 runs, 19 doubles, five homers, two stolen bases and 31 RBIs in 43 games with Tacoma.
This will be Lopez's third stint with Seattle this season. He has hit .228 with nine runs, six doubles and eight RBIs in 23 games with the Mariners in 2005.
