Play of the game
Early in the fourth quarter, San Antonio's Beno Udrih lost control of the ball, which ignited a Detroit fast break. Richard Hamilton raced out front, feinted a pass, then leaped past center Rasho Nesterovic and contorted in midair for a layup that put the Pistons ahead 82-58.
Turning point
In the second quarter, Detroit extended a 23-17 lead to 34-17 in less than three minutes. During the 11-0 spurt, reserve forward Antonio McDyess scored five points; Hunter added four.
Key matchup
Chauncey Billups held Tony Parker to 12 points on 6-for-13 shooting. Billups finished with 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Key observation
During a timeout in the first quarter, Detroit recognized former NBA star Dominique Wilkins and Hall of Famers Clyde Drexler, Bill Russell, Magic Johnson and Bob Lanier.
Quote of the day
"Well, I don't think of it as Square 1, but it's disappointing to play two games the same way and not learn from Game 3 and not be able to take care of some of that. That's probably the most disappointing part, but I don't think of it as Square 1."
— San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich.
