The Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League acquired the rights to quarterback Jason Gesser from the B.C. Lions for a draft pick in the 2006 CFL draft.
Gesser led Washington State to the Rose Bowl in his senior season and spent one season with the Tennessee Titans of the NFL.

• Host Western Washington was in fourth place, six shots out of first, after first-day play yesterday at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf West Regional at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club. Drury, Mo., was the surprise leader.
• The WWU men's golf team was in fifth place, just three shots out of the lead, following opening-round action at the West Regional in Dakota Dunes, S.D.
• Seattle University's Katie Ledbetter and Erin Martin were named Great Northwest Athletic Conference player and pitcher of the week for their performances last week. Ledbetter hit .375 with three home runs and 11 runs batted in, and Martin went 5-0 as the Redhawks were 7-1.
• Western Washington's Josh Freeman is the GNAC track and field male athlete of the week for April 24-30. The senior from Bainbridge Island won the decathlon at the GNAC Multi-Event Championships in Ellensburg with a meet-record 6,574 points.
• Andrew Gerst of Redondo Beach, Calif., signed a letter of intent to play tennis for Washington beginning next fall.
• Senior Carly Dockendorf was named UW's Most Valuable Gymnast at the annual team banquet. Dockendorf ended her UW career with 48 titles, fifth in school history.
• The Washington State track and field team signed 13 high-school seniors, including nine from Washington state: Sam Ahlbeck, distance, Renton; Vic Asher, throws, Vancouver; Chase Mancuso, throws, Mukilteo; Jasmine McCormack, throws, Arlington; Clint Osborn, thrower, Lake Stevens; Jimmy Schofield, distance, Spanaway; Dominic Smargiassi, distance, Auburn; Devin Timpson, sprinter, Ocean Shores; and Moreno Zapata, jumper, Lakewood.
