Fullback Robert Douglas will be one of the first draft prospects from out of the area to make a pre-draft visit with the Seahawks.

The University of Memphis product will be in Kirkland today to meet with Seahawks coaches, front-office staff and scouts. Douglas is one of up to 20 pro prospects the Seahawks can fly in for pre-draft visits.

Douglas, who measured 6 feet 1 ½ and 242 pounds at the Memphis pro workout day last month, is a converted outside linebacker expected to be drafted in the later rounds.

Douglas was largely unheralded until the pro day on March 24. He went from priority free-agent status to possible draft pick after running a 4.63-second 40-yard dash for a group of NFL scouts. That time was just 0.02 seconds off the fastest one by a fullback at the NFL scouting combine in February. Douglas was not there.

Douglas also logged a higher broad jump and vertical leap than any fullback who worked out at the combine, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper.

The St. Louis native moved from linebacker to fullback in the fall of 2003, two games into his junior year. Last season, he had 14 carries for 62 yards and scored two touchdowns and also caught seven passes for 113 yards and two scores. However, Douglas is known primarily for his blocking.

He could find a place with the Seahawks, who lost backup fullback Heath Evans to the Miami Dolphins in free agency and do not have a proven backup for starter Mack Strong. Chris Davis, the Seahawks' fifth-round pick in 2003, has been on injured reserve with knee problems the past two seasons and might be limited in offseason workouts.

Douglas also has worked out for the New York Giants, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles.
