Seattle places Jacobsen on 60-day disabled list

The Associated Press

PEORIA, Ariz. – The Seattle Mariners placed first baseman Bucky Jacobsen on the 60-day disabled list Thursday and claimed outfielder Abraham Nunez off waivers from Kansas City.

Jacobsen had season-ending surgery Sept. 16 to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee. Jacobsen was called up from Triple-A Tacoma last July 15 and hit .275 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs in 42 games.

The 28-year-old Nunez played as a rookie last season with Florida and Kansas City, appearing in 117 games. He homered in three straight games Aug. 25-27 for the Royals, including in a pair of games at Safeco Field.

He's expected to join the Mariners before Friday's exhibition game against the Chicago Cubs in Las Vegas.

In other moves, left-handed reliever George Sherrill was optioned to Tacoma and right-handed reliever Dan Reichert was reassigned to minor league camp.
