Friday, January 07, 2005 - Page updated at 12:00 A.M. Notebook: Enough tickets sold to greenlight TV broadcast Seattle Times staff reporters Seahawks KIRKLAND — It turns out that Seahawks fans who don't want to leave their living rooms won't miss the playoff game tomorrow after all. That's because the Seahawks had sold 66,000 tickets by 1:30 p.m. yesterday, ensuring the 1:30 p.m. game against the St. Louis Rams will be broadcast locally on KOMO-TV (Channel 4). About 3,500 tickets remained Tuesday, but fans and businesses chipped in to avoid a blackout. KOMO-TV also purchased a block of tickets, which it will donate to the military. "On behalf of the Seahawks, we want to say thanks to the 12th man," said Tod Leiweke, the team's chief executive officer. "We're thrilled. I woke up Monday absolutely confident this game would sell out. It was just a matter of time." The late rush of ticket purchases nearly ensures the 16th consecutive sellout at Qwest Field, the team's longest streak since 1992. During that stretch, the Seahawks are 12-3. Less than 1,000 tickets were available yesterday, most in the $68 range. They can be purchased at the box office, by calling 206-622-HAWK or online at www.seahawks.com. Leiweke said he didn't think the ticket situation indicated a lack of interest. "The response that we've had has been incredible at virtually every level," he said. Under the radar One Shaun Alexander fact lost in all the backstabbing and backtracking of the past week is this: In two games against the Rams this season, he rushed for 326 yards.
Alexander said the Rams' defensive scheme works out well for the Seahawks' rushing offense.
No decision on Robinson Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said wide receiver Koren Robinson will suit up for tomorrow's game, but no decision about his playing status has been made.
Robinson participated in only a few plays at practice yesterday, although he was healthy. Holmgren met with Robinson after practice. The coach also considered input from his players committee about Robinson. "I told them it wasn't their decision, but I did want them aware of what was going on," Holmgren said. "I wanted to hear what they thought, but I wasn't making them make the decision. Koren and I have spoken since, and there are a few things he has to do, which he said he is willing to do." Hawks on edge While Alexander on Wednesday indicated the Seahawks were relaxed going into the game, Holmgren described the players yesterday as "edgy." This after a locker-room altercation erupted between two players before practice. Staff members had to separate the two.
"As much as I don't like those," Holmgren said, "everyone is a little edgy, which is pretty good." Bulger battles Rams quarterback Marc Bulger missed two games in December with a shoulder injury, but it doesn't appear to be bothering him anymore.
He passed for 450 yards against the New York Jets last Sunday in a game the Rams needed to win. The shoulder has been a problem since Week 1, Rams coach Mike Martz said. Bulger said he feels much more confident in his fourth season. And by his account, opponent's blitzes don't faze him. "I haven't completed them all, but we haven't missed a blitz pickup between myself and the receivers all year," Bulger said. "We practiced it a lot, and I think I missed so many last year that I used them all up for my career." Jones honored Seahawks left tackle Walter Jones was voted to the Associated Press All-Pro team, the second time he has earned the honor. Earlier, Jones was named to his fifth Pro Bowl team.
Jones was the only Seahawk named to the first team All-Pro squad. Alexander and guard Steve Hutchinson were named to the second team.
Notes • WR Bobby Engram (offense), LB Chad Brown (defense) and DB Jordan Babineaux (special teams) received game balls for the Seahawks' win over Atlanta last week. • Five members of the Seahawks Ring of Honor will be on hand to raise the 12th man flag before tomorrow's game. • Jaqui Rice, daughter of Seahawks WR Jerry Rice, will perform the national anthem with her pop group, Sorella. • WR Darrell Jackson practiced for the first time this week. He has been nursing a sore hamstring.
