UNIVERSITY PLACE — The Seattle Christian Warriors are one win from a happy ending for coach Lisa Peterson.

The Warriors scored three second-half goals in a 12-minute span yesterday and shut out Bellevue Christian 3-0 in the Class 1A/B girls state soccer semifinals at Curtis High School.

Seattle Christian (16-2-1) will play University Prep (18-1-0) of Seattle in today's championship game at 4 p.m. University Prep beat La Salle of Yakima 3-0 in last night's late semifinal.

The Warriors from SeaTac will play for the school's first title since 1999, when they won the last of seven consecutive state championships.

Peterson will retire as the Warriors' coach after the final game today — concluding a 20-year coaching career.

"We get to go to the final game," Peterson said. "The kids are pumped. I'm so happy for them."

Bellevue Christian (16-5-0) will play La Salle (16-1-1) for third and fourth places today at noon.

Seattle Christian and Bellevue Christian went into halftime tied at 0-0. But the Warriors broke through with three goals in the second half.

"We seem to score in groupings," Peterson said. "They do that when they relax. They just let the game happen."

All the goals came off assists from Elissa Kane, with the first two coming off corner kicks. The first led to a header by junior midfielder Katie Haynes in the 42nd minute. The second was scored by Alyssa Harney in the 52nd minute.

Noelle Simpson scored the third goal in the 54th minute, after a free kick by Kane was deflected by BC keeper Jennifer Orrestad to Simpson.

"She can sure dish the ball around," Peterson said of Kane.

Her sister, goalkeeper Jessica Kane, kept Bellevue Christian off the board. She made five saves. Bellevue Christian's best chance for a goal came in the 34th minute. Whitney Teague's shot was deflected by Jessica Kane to Lynn Voth, but her shot hit the left post and was cleared.

University Prep 3, La Salle 0

La Salle entered last night's semifinal game undefeated and having allowed just one goal all season. Katherine Reynolds changed all that with one kick.

Reynolds, a junior midfielder, scored the first of three goals for University Prep as the Pumas stunned the Lightning 3-0.

Reynolds' score came in the 32nd minute on a breakaway, shooting the ball past goalkeeper Lauren Chambard for a 1-0 lead.

"I just wanted to score," said Reynolds. "I was so pumped. We knew we could beat this team."

Annie Omata and Megan Murray added the other goals in the second half.

Freshman goalkeeper Hailey Bobin picked up the shutout for the Pumas, who limited the Lightning to just three shots on goal. La Salle had dominated their opposition during the regular season, scoring 107 goals.

"We never played on turf before tonight," said La Salle coach Anne Newell. "We didn't play more competitive games because there is no comparison to our league. But I was impressed with how our girls played."
