Alexander's 38-yard run in the second quarter. Breaking into the clear off the left side, Alexander put a big-time fake on Panthers rookie CB Chris Gamble on his way to the Carolina 7-yard line.

Turning point

Seahawks CB Marcus Trufant intercepted a Delhomme pass intended for WR Ricky Proehl at the Seattle 10-yard line and the Seahawks clinging to a 23-10 lead. The turnover and long interception return kept the Panthers at bay, and although Carolina later scored a touchdown, the Panthers didn't have enough time to complete their comeback attempt.

Sunday's surprises

Panthers return specialist Jamall Broussard, playing in place of the injured Rod Smart, averaged 26.2 yards on six kickoff returns, including a 48-yard runback. ... The Seahawks entered the game converting just 31 percent of third downs but made 8 of 17 third downs yesterday (47 percent).

Injury report

Seattle: RB-KR Maurice Morris suffered a concussion on the game's opening kickoff and left the field with trainers. He did not return. LG Steve Hutchinson suffered a sprained right ankle early in the second quarter but returned before halftime, only to leave again near the end of the third quarter. WR Jerry Rice sprained his right ankle in the second quarter and did not return. DT Rashad Moore left the game because of an allergic reaction to oranges at halftime and did not return. WR Alex Bannister broke his collarbone and is expected to miss the next eight weeks.

Carolina: LB Dan Morgan left the game in the second quarter with a concussion and did not return. DT Kindal Moorehead and RB Joey Harris suffered shoulder bruises.

By the numbers

24: Number of first downs for the Seahawks, equaling a season high.

Speaker box

"That's real big for him to bounce back after the last couple of weeks and show proof that he needs the rock and he deserves the rock."
— Seahawks WR Koren Robinson, on Alexander's performance after just 28 carries the previous two games combined.

Being that it was Halloween, many fans sported some original costumes. Perhaps none were as good as the three guys who dressed as Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren, complete with mustache, headset, play flip card and polo shirt. Also, a sign in the south end zone read, "Will the real Seahawks please stand up?"
