NEW YORK Jamal Crawford, a former standout at Rainier Beach High School, had 22 points to help the New York Knicks rout the Dallas Mavericks 102-86 in an exhibition last night. Crawford, who has led the Knicks in scoring four times this preseason, scored seven points during New York's 10-1 run to start the third quarter. He capped the third with two fast breaks on consecutive steals, dunking after the first and finding Penny Hardaway with a slick behind-the-head pass on the second, helping the Knicks take a 78-56 lead to the fourth. Dirk Nowitzki scored all of his 17 points in the first half to lead the Mavericks, who emptied their bench after falling behind by 20 points in the third quarter. Erick Dampier, who Knicks president Isiah Thomas tried to sign in the offseason, had eight points in 19 minutes for Dallas. Jason Terry, who played his high-school ball at Franklin, added 17 points and five rebounds for the Mavericks. New York's Allan Houston sat out his sixth consecutive preseason game while resting his left knee. Dallas was without seven players, including Marquis Daniels (left knee), Jerry Stackhouse (right thigh) and Michael Finley (right hamstring).
