WSU Football
Play of the Game: With Oregon State ahead 10-3 midway through the second quarter, QB Derek Anderson hit WR Mike Hass over the middle for 31 yards to the WSU 8-yard line, and one play later Dwight Wright scored, giving Oregon State a 17-3 lead. Star of the Game: Oregon State DE Bill Swancutt, who has had trouble getting to the quarterback this year, had two sacks of Alex Brink and three tackles for loss, applying steady pressure to the young WSU quarterback. Cougars highlight: Jerome Harrison ran the ball 20 times for 98 yards as the tailback-shy Cougars had 156 gross yards of rushing offense. Cougars lowlight: The punting game hurt the Cougars, as Kyle Basler had a subpar 39.5-yard average, and WSU return men allowed two second-quarter punts to bounce for additional yardage, drastically impacting field position. Key stat: WSU had one third-down conversion in 14 tries, while OSU was eight of 20. He said it: "We've got to be more consistent. Guys have got to do things the way they're coached to do them." WSU offensive coordinator Mike Levenseller. Injury: Just after catching his first career TD pass late in the game, WR Greg Prator sprained an ankle. Next week: No. 1 USC in Pullman, Saturday at 4 p.m. Bud Withers
