June 4 The NCAA launches an inquiry into Rick Neuheisel's betting on college basketball because its rules strictly prohibit coaches from wagering on college sports.

June 11 UW begins the process of firing Neuheisel with cause.

June 26 Neuheisel appeals his firing in a meeting with UW athletic director Barbara Hedges.

July 1 Hedges announces she has made a final decision to fire Neuheisel with cause.

July 7 Neuheisel asks for final appeal hearing with UW vice president Norm Arkans.

July 24 Neuheisel waives a final hearing with Arkans.

Nov. 18 UW agrees it committed violations and announces self penalties.

2004

Jan. 9 Hedges announces retirement, citing the Neuheisel case and an investigation into drug use by the softball program.

Feb. 17 NCAA tells UW it will charge the school with "lack of institutional control."

March 12 Pac-10 council accepts UW's findings and penalties.

June 11 Neuheisel and UW officials meet with the NCAA Committee on Infractions.

Oct. 20 NCAA releases final penalties and report, deciding not to further penalize Neuheisel and downgrading the lack of institutional charge against UW to failure to monitor.
