Players of the game

Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander

Had his third-best single-game rushing performance with 23 carries for 150 yards and a touchdown.

Seahawks CB Ken Lucas

Intercepted two passes to take the team lead with three this season. Also had two pass deflections and five tackles.

Rams QB Marc Bulger

Finished 24 for 42 for 325 yards and three touchdown passes, though he was intercepted three times. Also scored a rushing touchdown.

Seahawks CB Marcus Trufant

Led the Seahawks in tackles with eight and intercepted his second pass of the season.

Play of the game: Bulger's pass to wide receiver Shaun McDonald for the winning touchdown in overtime. McDonald ran past Seahawks strong safety Terreal Bierria and caught Bulger's pass in stride, running into the end zone to end the game.

Turning point: Facing a third-and-five, Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck fumbled when Rams DE Leonard Little roared through on a pass rush. The Seahawks, leading 27-24 at the two-minute warning of the fourth quarter, recovered the ball but couldn't stop the Rams from tying the score on their last possession of regulation.

Sunday's surprises: The Rams got eight catches, three touchdowns and 170 receiving yards from four young players who are not typically featured — WRs McDonald, Kevin Curtis, Dane Looker and TE Brandon Manumaleuna. For Seattle, TE Jerramy Stevens had three catches, including his first touchdown since the 2002 season.

Injury report

Seattle: P Tom Rouen strained a hamstring in the fourth quarter and did not return.

St. Louis: CB Dwight Anderson injured his right shin on a punt in the first quarter but returned after X-rays were negative. DT Tyoka Jackson strained a hamstring in the first quarter and did not return. CB Aeneas Williams suffered a pinched nerve in his neck in the second quarter and did not return. WR Isaac Bruce suffered a slight concussion in the fourth quarter.

By the numbers

7-14: The Seahawks' all-time overtime record after yesterday's loss.

14: The number of seconds difference in the time of possession (Seahawks 31 minutes, 38 seconds; Rams 31:24).

0-6: The Seahawks' record after bye weeks under coach Mike Holmgren.

Speaker box: "I think there was a little bit of celebration there. You've got to understand the game is never over until it's over. And that's the worst cliché of all time."
— Rams tight end Cameron Cleeland, a former UW player and Sedro-Woolley native, when asked if the Seahawks celebrated victory too early.

Seahawks lowlight: On Bulger's 9-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, the Seahawks were completely turned around in pass coverage, particularly linebackers Isaiah Kacyvenski and Orlando Huff. Both turned around just in time to see Bulger jog into the end zone on a bootleg right.

Keep those Super Bowl hopes alive because ... The Seahawks showed they can quickly overcome their offensive mistakes. Seattle overcame penalties on two drives and a dropped pass on another during their three touchdown drives in the first half.

Put those Super Bowl hopes on hold because... The Seahawks dropped four passes yesterday, two by WR Koren Robinson which gives him seven, unofficially, for the season. Also, Seattle blew a big lead in the fourth quarter.

José Miguel Romero
