Play of the Game

Running back Shaun Alexander's first rushing touchdown and second TD of the game. It happened in the second quarter. Alexander took a handoff from the New Orleans 6-yard line, started inside and cut outside to his left. He made one tackler miss, then another before outrunning Saints safety Tebucky Jones into the corner of the end zone.

Turning point: Safety Michael Boulware's interception of a pass tipped by DE Grant Wistrom in the third quarter. The interception set up the Seahawks at the Saints 26, and two plays later Seattle scored a touchdown to take a 21-7 lead late in the quarter.

Players of the day: Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander (28 carries, 135 yards three total TDs); QB Matt Hasselbeck (19 of 29, 246 yards, INT, TD); SS Michael Boulware (three tackles, INT, two pass deflections, one hurry); Saints KR Michael Lewis (returns of 51 and 47 yards).

Seahawks highlight: Alexander's first touchdown. He caught a sidearm screen pass from Hasselbeck, shed DT Brian Young's tackle and knocked over CB Fakhir Brown going into the end zone in the second quarter to open the game's scoring.

Seahawks lowlight: Hasselbeck, stepping up nicely to avoid pressure, connected with Bobby Engram. But Saints safety Jay Bellamy stripped the sprinting Engram from behind, and Brown recovered the ball after the play had covered 38 yards. Hasselbeck compounded matters by being flagged for a 15-yard illegal chop penalty during the fumble return. And, the Seahawks were flagged for illegal motion at the start of the play.
