Frederick's of Hollywood might be smart to start marketing tearaway negligees complete with helmet and shoulder pads.

That's because, in an e-mail survey of men by www.FFChamps.com, 40 percent of the 280 respondents said fantasy football was their overriding thought during the day, as opposed to just 30 percent who voted for sex. As Ian Millman, FFChamps co-founder, told the Business Wire: "How often people think about sex has long been known, but what we didn't really know is how much men today are also thinking about fantasy football, whether creating their teams, analyzing statistics or choosing which players to start each week."

To wit: 58 percent said they spend 1-3 hours daily thinking about fantasy football and 25 percent think about it 4-8 hours, topping sex numbers in both cases.

On the bright side, wrote Steve Schrader of the Detroit Free Press: "Maybe this means those fantasy types won't be reproducing."

Twin brothers

Air Force quarterback Shaun Carney lost by 42 points to California in his starting debut four days ago, while his brother Mark, the quarterbacks coach at Richmond, lost 42-0 at North Carolina State.

That season-opening Saturday is now known around the Carney household as the Bummer of 42.

Net profit

Brittny Godlewski, a Ferris State volleyball player, gave a whole new meaning to the term "net profit" when her team took a side trip during a tournament in California to attend a taping of "The Price is Right" — and she won $1,000 spinning the wheel after getting picked out of the audience.

"Brittny was a great contestant and it was neat to see her do well," coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm was quoted in the Detroit Free Press. "Our entire team was in a great seating location and will get plenty of air time when the show is on (Nov. 15)."

The NCAA will reserve comment, we assume, until it reviews the game film.

Talking the talk

Brad Rock of the Deseret News, after ESPN mistakenly noted that Utah running back Brandon Warfield — who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards as a senior last year — was still on this year's football team: "I understand it's also predicting Lee Grosscup will pass for over 300 yards this week in a win over Arizona."

• Former Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe, to the Denver Post, on why new defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham won't help the Chiefs' 29th-ranked defense: "They felt the cars they had were plenty fast. They kept the same cars, but got a new crew chief. I think maybe they might have needed to get some new cars or at least rebuild the engines."

Fantasy Football 101

If your wife reads that FFChamps survey and complains that "You love fantasy football more than you love me," it is not considered good form to respond, "But Sweetums, you're no worse than a second-round draft pick."
