Thumbs up

Texas Rangers bullpen: The pen is keeping Texas in the playoff race. The Rangers have won 12 games when the starting pitcher works less than five innings.

Thumbs down

Kyle Farnsworth, Chicago Cubs: The struggling setup man will be out for at least three weeks with a sprained and bruised right knee after injuring himself Friday while taking out his frustrations on an electric fan.

Ex-Mariner of the week

Quinton McCracken, Arizona Diamondbacks: Released by the Mariners on June 7 after appearing in 19 games, the veteran outfielder signed a minor-leauge deal with the Diamondbacks on June 11. He was called up to the big club on June 30 and has hit .299 (40-134) in 44 games since.
