Christina Kwan recently won a gold medal in the U.S. women's boxing championships in Spokane and will compete at the Ringside World Championships this month. The world championships to be held in Kansas City, Mo., Aug. 17-21 will include 1,500 boxers from 15 countries. Kwan, a 1998 graduate of Shorecrest High School and cousin of figure skater Michelle Kwan, won the gold medal in the 95-pound division during the national competition last week. Kwan, a graduate of UNLV, is also aiming for a spot on the U.S. team for the Beijing Games in 2008, when women's boxing is expected to be an Olympic event for the first time. "My goal is also to box in the Olympics and to be among the first women to medal in the sport," she said.
