Career highlight: In this season's second race, Kahne just missed his first Cup victory when Matt Kenseth beat him to the finish line by one-hundredth of a second. It was the fourth-closest finish in series history.

Career highlight: At the 1990 Daytona 500, Dale Earnhardt dominated the race but suffered a tire mishap in Turn 3 on the final lap. Cope swept past Earnhardt for the win.

Motor mouthing: "There's great talent coming out of the Pacific Northwest. It does add a lot of credibility. At a time when no one was breaking in, we've risen to the top."
