CORVALLIS, Ore. A fourth-inning grand slam from right fielder Taylor Johnson proved the difference as the No. 21 Washington baseball team beat Oregon State 8-5 yesterday at Goss Stadium. The win gave the Huskies (26-14-1, 10-5 Pac-10) a 2-1 series win and left UW alone in second place in the Pac-10, 1½ games behind Stanford. Oregon State (27-14, 7-8) dropped into a tie for fourth. Simon Wangai led five Kenyans in winning the Spokane Bloomsday Run 12-kilometer race in 34 minutes, 54 seconds. It was the slowest winning time in race history. Bloomsday regular James Koskei, the 2002 winner, placed second in 35:31. Tacoma's Eric Tollefson was ninth (38:06), Jeremy Tolman of Vancouver, Wash., was 11th in 38:25, Michael Friedberg of Pullman was 15th (39:02) and Destry Johnson of Puyallup was 18th (39:23). Seattle Pacific cruised to a second straight women's varsity four championship, while the men's lightweight four required a late surge to win at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
